Enrique's Journey
Money corrupts people even the cops. In Enrique's Journey on his way to find his mom in America he gets stopped by cops. They end up putting a gun to his face and robbing him in Mexico. He then sees them again and tries getting justice but the same thing happens. "'Get over here,' the buzz-cut officer barked, waving a pistol. One of the migrants bolted. Enrique obeyed, afraid of what might happen if he tried to run. The officers put the migrants in the back of their truck. They demanded 100 pesos to let them go. Enrique was relieved that one of the fellow migrants had the money and handed it over."(pg:58) The quote proves that money will make people do anything just to try and have a good life. These cops should be removed form the police force, the reason is that they are putting fear in the people they are suppose to protect. How are these kids and people suppose to walk the streets at night when they are afraid of their own police force. These two men are abusing their power and there is more police men that are like this. I feel that there should be an upraises to take these cops down in any means possible. If there was police in my town that acted in this manner i would do the same. There really needs to be an up keep on police activity in poverty nieghbor hoods because there are more places even in are country that are like this.
Enrique's journey
"In a country where nearly half live on $1 or less a day, kids from poor neighborhoods almost never go to college."(pg:37) I though this was a really important issue that i found in the book. Every child should have a right to have an education. I think that people in poverty should have free school there has to be some great minds in children living in poverty, but they don't get a chance. In society were you live determines your fiat. This is unfair but so is the world. We can do something about though to at least give the children a chance to shine. I really believe education and how everyone should have a chance to get a good education. It is not right that a kid in South America and Africa cant get a education. This makes no scene and to be honest is cruel.
Enrique's Journey
"Now Enrique's anger boils over. He refuses to make his Mother's Day card at school. He begins hitting other kids. At recess, he lifts schoolgirls' skirts. When a teachers tries to make him behave by smacking him with a large ruler, Enrique grabs the end of the ruler and refuses to let go, making the teacher cry."(pg:23) This proves that child abandonment does affect how a child acts. I understand that what Lourdes his mother did was for the good, but that doesn't mean it was right. She went to america to get money so he can have a better life but he would have had a better life if she was there. No child can live with out there mom. Its hard, just like it was hard for me to grow up without a father. Its difficult for children and i just feel if my dad was there things would be different. Maybe me and Enrique wouldn't act out how we did. There is really no way to find out but i think child abandonment is wrong and will hurt the child in the long run.

Enrique's Journey
Lourdes just had a babe in America, after having to go through the ordeal of getting to America. She met a man named Santos that help her by giving money to her kids in Mexico and also providing her with a place to live. After their babe was born she got fired from working and had to work at a bar. After giving a co-worker a ride home her boyfriend freaked out. "Two months after Dana's birth, she is fired. She gets a job at a pizzeria and bar. Santos doesn't want her to work there. One night, Santos is drunk and jealous that Lourdes has given a co-worker a ride home. He punch Lourdes in the chest, knocking her to the ground."(pg:14) I felt that this was good to bring up because it proves that abuse among spouses happens often. This is wrong and i fell alcohol also has a part in this but there was no right to punch her. This quote shows that many wives are struggling with abuses and it is not right.

Legalize Marijuana sales
If marijuana is sold and smoked legally crime rates and arrest rate will go down. As stated in the article "Instead of having regulated market, we've turned thing over to this extremely violent unregulated marketing controlled by organized crime." I believe 100 present with this statement because another statistic shows that just in 2009 in B.C there was 43 gang related deaths and 276 drive by shooting in public areas. This was most likely over drug sales and truff. If we end this Prohibition and take the drugs away from the kingpins; and regulate/sale the product. There would be a stop to the violence because with out there product, there is no money, if there is no money there is no power.

Enrigue jourmey
"it is January 29, 1989. His mother steps off the porch. she walks away. 'Where is my mom'(Pg:5) Enrique is shocked his mom left him for America to give him a better life. 48,000 children have left Central American in sereach of their mothers. many of these childern have died on the way or went missing. This is all because of poverty. With out money you cant live. I believe that America and the UN should take a matter on this behalf. Third world countries need help and we cant be not human. We as a country need to step in and give a helping hand so children like Enrique can grow up and share a life with his mother, and not end up dead in a ditch trying to find her.

If i were a poor black kid
Yes i do agree because the spread between rich and poor has gotten wider over the decades. And the opportunities for the 99% have become harder to realize. Its been harder and harder for the poor to get a good job and to become wealthy. the reason is because there are not much opportunities in the poorer areas of the country. It is very hard for not only black kids but the poor in general to succeeded.
sexual harassment
Well i do believe no means no but there is a certain way you should say it. If you are playful and your body languages is off it seems like you were just kidding around. If you want to say no about something you need to be Strong and serous. A lot of girls in this generation throw around word and don't mean it at all. For example when people say oh shut up it doesn't actually mean shut up it means get out of here. That's why many sexual harassment cases happen because people are not serous with there choice of words.

race in america
What really strike me from this CNN article black and white and a target for both. the reason it shocked me is because he say he use to get pulled over by cops just because he was black driving a nice car. i personally think all the racist cops should have their job taken away. it is not far that just because they are black means they are poor or drug dealers. He also said that he would get followed around stores because he was black. this reminds me of Tim wise book about white people stereotyping. I also wonder if the store owner would keep on eye on me more or a black male that was in the store with me. These people need to realize that we are not different we are all equal. It doesn't matter if we have different skin colors we are all human beans.

wrongful conviction
I feel the police sometime rush into solving a murder because they want to make the victims family happy. With Terrell case they tried getting it over with by blaming it on him. I don't believe it was a race issue it was more of getting the case over with. Police officers need to take there time no matter how bad the news could be to the victims family. They can not just put the blame on someone there not sure about because the person could be insistent.

Affirmative Action
I personally believe that putting race as a admission policie is wrong. To be honest it makes us more raises that we are just letting a student into the school because of the color of his/hers skin. In the article a group of minority's say the ban of the affirmative action right is taking some of their civil rights away. If anything we are giving back there civil rights. We should not except someone just because of their color. We are all equal which means that we should all be excepted equally by are GPA, are test scores, and are life experiences. If we let minority's have the affirmative action act we would be putting minority's under white Americans which is racist. I deffently aguree with Ward Connerly, who is defending Proposition 209, arguing that all UC applicants should be treated equally and shouldn't be classified by race or sex. Ward is hundrad precent correct because thats just putting other races under use which is making the problem wores. Also in the article Brown states that if we do consider this act it will help more minortitys to a higher education and create a diversity. I do agree with this is some exstent but minoritys can still get into a good school with good grades or a hard life experince. Also im sure that there will be enough minoritys that do adamically well to create some diverstiy in the colleges.

Denial
I believe that if you lived in a racist town with a high number of Mexican and African Americans it can help you get a job easier. the reason is that they are not looking for a good working habit but just a white person. I didn't really think the article was was convincing because one its a white person writing the storey and also i feel that racism in a lot of parts is gone. Tim Wise also said in his article that "United states, you can almost understand- not forgive, but understand such folks, especially if they're white, being under the impression that everything is fine nowadays." (Page:62) I don't not agree at all with this statement, the reason is because i never done wrong towards a black person or been racist towards one. I personal didn't do anything wrong to them and i feel bad that their ancestors had to go through that but they didn't. we are in a new age no one really is racist en less they are adult from a different time like the 90s. When i lived in the city i had a couple of black friends in the south side of Chicago that felt like just because they were black whites and Asian Americans were think that they were stealing. So when my friend left the store they started to sereached him for items that might have been stole; but there was nothing on my friend and ever since i do believe that there is racists but not everywhere.
